MSU Men's Basketball Team Receives OVC Honors

Fresh off a 24thconsecutive win and an AP Top 25 ranking, three members of the Murray State men’s basketball team have received Ohio Valley Conference honors.

Sophomore guard Cameron Payne is the OVC Player of the Year. he averages 20.2 points per game, ranked 13th nationwide.

According to Racer Athletics, he's on track to potentially shatter the all time MSU scoring record of 2,484 points.

This isn't Payne's first recognition; last season, he was named the OVC Freshman of the Year. He's the first Racer to receive the award since Isaah Canaan in 2013.

Payne and Senior Jarvis Williams have also made the All-OVC First Team squad. Williams holds one of MSU's all-time best statlines, averaging more than nine rebounds per game along with a 57 percent field goal percentage.

Steve Prohm is the league’s Coach of the Year. He previously received the nod in his 2011-12 rookie season, where he led the Racers to a 23-0 start.

The Racers ran the table in conference play this season with a perfect 16-0 record. They’ll enter OVC tournament play Friday as the number one seed.
