Twelve people, including ten incumbents, have filed to run for the Murray City Council this year.
Because there are twelve spots on the council, both of the newcomers should be elected in November, barring write-in campaigns.
They are Wesley Bolin, a Murray State University employee and former Congressional candidate and John Mark Roberts, who has mounted multiple unsuccessful bids for the city council in recent years.
Butch Seargent and Greg Taylor are not seeking re-election. The incumbents running in 2016 are Jeremy Bell, Robert Billington, Johnny Bohannon, Linda Cherry, Danny Hudspeth, Dan Miller, Jason Pittman, Pat Scott, Jane Shoemaker and Burton Young.
By comparison, 22 people ran for the council in 2012 and 19 candidates appeared on the ballot in 2014.
