Dawson Springs to Add Pedestrian-Friendly Trail

Kentuckians near Dawson Springs will soon have access to a pedestrian-friendly trail that connects the town to the PennyrileForest State Resort Park.

Governor Steve Beshear, who’s also a Dawson Springs native, announced $84,231 in funding for phase one of that trail's construction Thursday.

He says he believes the project will attract tourists and jobs to the area.

"You know, part of creating those jobs is creating all of the amenities and all of the services that make people want to be in a place - that make people want to live in a place," Beshear said.

At the check awarding ceremony, Dawson Springs mayor Jenny Sewell says the trail should add to the already growing number of visitors that the town's seen lately.

"[...] We see cars and trailers coming through all the time, and activity in our stores has begun to really pick up," Sewell said.

State Rep. Jim Gooch also attended the event.

The route is handicap accessible and will run parallel to Kentucky Route 109.

Dawson Springs was named a "Trail Town" last year for its proximity to outdoor recreational areas.
