The Christian County Board of Education’s lawyer has denied allegations that it wrongfully made plans to close Lacy Elementary School.
Attorney Jack Lackey’s response says the board of education does not have enough information to determine if some of the allegations are true, including the school board members’ surprise at the facility’s age and their comment that student’s “would survive” long bus rides to school.
The Kentucky New Era reports that Lackey did not have any comment outside of the official response.
However, during a May 14 closed meeting of the board of education about the lawsuit, the board could be heard expressing doubts Lacy supporters could sustain the financial burden of a prolonged legal battle. “This will start to wear off after they start getting the legal bills,” Lackey said. “They’re not going to be able to sell enough signs or have enough yard sales. At some point it will wear off.”
A group of Christian County residents and parents of students at the school filed the lawsuit last month saying the school met all the requirements of a permanent center, but was named a transitional one. The allegations included other complaints such as concerns about conflicts of interest with the architect who conducted the Lacy Elementary evaluation.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Rick Walter had no comment.
