Youth Project

As the region gears up for Quilt Week, Murray Girl Scout Troop 1154 craft quilt blocks in a journey of story telling. In this Youth Radio Project Production, the girls and Scout leader Jennifer Bryson describe the project and the meaning within in their designs.

WKMS and the middle school kids of Calloway County Public Library bring to you an original story of terror and suspense, of a dreadful monster that turns one slumber party into a nightmarish evening of fear and chaos, that twists the imagination toward the realm of the unknown, and a night none are sure to forget until their dying day. One would think that a night with a clown would be one filled with jolly and laughter, but not on this... "NIGHT OF THE FRANKENCLOWN!"

British animator David Firth has gained a large following and acclaim over the years on YouTube and the animation website Newgrounds for his darkly humorous and surreal work. WKMS Youth Reporter Kayla Eicholtz admires the artwork in his videos and was curious to find out more about his creative process, to learn that while some artwork may be strange and possibly even scary, the originality of the idea can be a determining factor in how interesting a piece of art is. She spoke with Firth over the phone, while he was on a trip through Europe seeking inspiration, in Switzerland at this particular moment.

Brooke Lovett, Camp Director, Young Authors Camp

Last week, several children from across the region, between the ages of 8 and 12, came to the campus of Murray State University for the annual Young Authors Camp. These young authors practiced writing for fun in a variety of styles from poetry to fictional stories, skits, and more, under the direction of classroom instructors. For more about this year's Young Authors Camp, WKMS Youth Radio Producer Matt Markgraf speaks with Camp Director Brooke Lovett.
