Murray, KY – Information about NPR's dismissal of Commentator Juan Williams

NPR has terminated the contract of Senior News Analyst Juan Williams, due to remarks made on The O'Reilly Factor on Mon., October 18, that were inconsistent with NPR's editorial standards and practices.

Thank you for all of your varying feedback on the Juan Williams situation. Let me offer some further clarification about why we terminated his contract early.

Murray, KY – MacArthur "genius" Fellow Majora Carter hosts a new five-part series, The Promised Land which airs on WKMS Thursdays at noon starting Thursday, October 21, continuing through Thursday, November 18. Carter introduces today's visionaries, trailblazers who are effecting change - close to home and far afield.

Murray, Ky – WKMS celebrates the birthday of the late John Lennon by featuring his music on Music from the Front Porch, Rough Mix, and Beyond the Edge this Saturday. Lennon would have been 70 years old. The Beatles founder collaborated with Paul McCartney to form one of the most prolific and successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. As performer, writer, or co-writer Lennon is responsible for 27 number one singles in the United States.

Murray, KY – The region's public radio service, 91.3 WKMS features special patriotic and American music to celebrate Independence Day. The Fourth of July specials are on the station's all classical channel on air in many locations at 91.3 WKMS HD-2; streaming online at WKMS HD-2 at station website www.wkms.org; and on air at station translators 92.5 FM, Paducah and 105.1 FM, Madisonville.

Murray, KY – Murray State's public radio service, 91.3 FM, WKMS airs a special broadcast of the WKMS News weekly newsmagazine The Front Page on Friday, June 25 and Sunday, June 27. The broadcast features profiles of Kentucky's ten most influential politicians of the 20th Century. The order of the profiles, from least to most influential, will be determined by listeners voting their preference at the station's website, www.wkms.org.

Murray, KY – Murray, KY.-Murray State's public radio service, 91.3 FM, WKMS has improved reception for listeners in Fulton, South Fulton, Martin and Union City, Tennessee with repeater service 89.5 FM WKMT, Fulton, effective Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Murray State University President Randy Dunn says, "We're very happy to have WKMT on the air to extend WKMS' reach to the southwest, especially since many listeners in this area experienced withdrawal of public radio service in the past."

Murray, KY – Listener supported public radio service 91.3 FM, WKMS celebrates music from the movies this Sunday with two locally produced programs, The Eisenhower Hour and Sounds of the Silver Screen. WKMS also welcomes a new, nationally- distributed program, Snap Judgment, to the station's lineup on Mondays this summer.

Murray, KY – Music from the Front Porch host John McMillen emcees the Pickin' Party starting Saturday at LBL's Homeplace -- with old-time music, workshops, and children's activities. WKMS and the Murray Art Guild are offering a kid's crafts activity. It's 10 to 7 Saturday and 11 to 6 Sunday. See you there!

Murray, KY – WKMS features special editions of Music from the Front Porch and Juke Joint Shuffle Saturday, May 1. Former WKMS News Director Gary Scott, now performing as half of Garcia and Scott, joins host Mark Welch on the Porch from 10 to 1, including a salute to the Derby. Then host John Griffin's Juke Joint Shuffle, 2 to 4 p.m., is all about "horse music."
