Frankfort, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced a milestone accomplishment for Kentucky transportation - federal approval of an agreement by which a 38-mile section of the Wendell H. Ford Western Kentucky Parkway will be designated Interstate 69 this fall.

It is the first segment of what eventually will become an I-69 corridor from Henderson to Fulton, incorporating the Julian Carroll/Purchase Parkway, Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway and a portion of I-24 in addition to the Ford/Western Kentucky Parkway.

On Saturday, November 5, A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor comes to Murray State University's CFSB Center with a centennial tribute to Father of Bluegrass Music Bill Monroe.

Murray, KY – A Christian County man is dead after a tractor accident yesterday morning. A motorist discovered 69 year old James Edward Morris around 8 am Monday near his home. Police say Morris was lying next to the road with what appeared to be fatal wounds from a bush hog. Police found his tractor close by in the tree line with the bush hog still attached. Police don't suspect foul play in Morris' death.

Murray, KY – The Army reports the 30th casualty from Fort Campbell this year. Kentucky native, and Fort Campbell soldier 27 year-old Sgt. Jeremy R. Summers died July 14 in Afghanistan's Paktika province after enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. Sgt. Summers of Mount Olivet, Ky., He was assigned to to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Two long-running WKMS Saturday programs move to new times on the July 4th weekend. This American Life moves from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays (also re-airing at noon Mondays replacing Studio 360 which leaves the station's schedule) and Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour moves from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays.

WKMS premieres a new contemporary international music program, Imported, at midnight Sundays starting July 3, pre-empting the second hour of Music from the Hearts of Space. WKMS Volunteers Chris Taylor and Georgena Ware are originating the program in the region's public radio service's studios.
