The University of Kentucky will benefit from the latest gift from a foundation tied to a Lexington auto dealership.

A $10 million gift from the Don Jacobs Charitable Foundation, announced Tuesday, means further investment in undergraduate science education at UK.  A majority of the contribution, $8 million, will go toward the new academic science building that now bears the name Don and Cathy Jacobs Science Building.  Don Jacobs, well-known in Lexington, passed away last spring.

Three McCracken County High School seniors officially signed to play football at the University of Kentucky. Wells Purdom, Jake Moreland and Zyaire Hughes will join the Wildcats next academic year. The UK football team is in the Eastern Division of the NCAA’s Southeastern Conference.

  As the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels prepare for an OVC matchup on Thursday, they are sure to still be talking about Saturday’s game in Lexington.  After leading by two touchdowns in the last quarter, EKU saw the University of Kentucky do just enough to win 34 to 27 in overtime.

Lexington police have made an arrest in the Friday morning shooting death of a University of Kentucky student. The fatal shooting appears to be robbery related. 

President Barack Obama didn't exactly go out on a limb with his college-basketball picks this year.

Like most people, he picked Kentucky to run the table, go 40-0, and win the NCAA Tournament. He also picked three No. 1 seeds and one No. 2 to make it to the Final Four.

"I don't think you can play a perfect basketball game anymore than you can do anything perfectly," the president said of Kentucky, "but these guys are coming pretty close."
