United Steelworkers officials who represent the hourly workers at the Honeywell nuclear facility in Metropolis say they were not notified beforehand of the company’s decision to not re-open the plant to perform upgrades.

Honeywell officials released more information today about why the Metropolis plant’s reopening has been pushed back. The company had planned to restart nuclear fuel production July 1.

Honeywell’s Metropolis facility will resume operations at the start of July after a Uranium Hexaflouride leak closed the plant in mid-May.

Today on NPR: A study found psychiatric patients waited an average of 11.5 hours in hospital emergency rooms before being treated or released. That's in part because many hospitals have decided it's not economically viable to keep psychiatric wards open.

Honeywell, Union Differ on Chemical Leak at Metropolis Plant

United Steel workers Local 7669 officials say there was a seven minute uranium hexafluoride leak at Honeywell’s Metropolis, Illinois plant earlier this month.  They also allege the community was not notified of the incident.
