NLRB Dismisses Labor Violation Charges Against Honeywell

The National Labor Relations Board has issued a decision in favor of Honeywell Plant officials regarding a complaint that they illegally locked out members of the United Steelworkers Union.

Last month, USW Local 7-669 filed the complaint to the board that the now 143-day work stoppage violates federal labor regulations.

Honeywell Restarts Production Today, NRC Approves New Emergency Protocols

Honeywell’s Metropolis plant restarts production today, 18 days after a gas leak at the facility.

On the evening of Oct 26, employees there reported a uranium hexafluoride gas (UF-6) leak that put the plant into emergency shutdown mode.

A company investigation determined the leak was internal and caused by mechanical failure near the end of the production process.

Honeywell Negotiations to Resume Friday

UPDATE: 3:53pm Thursday

No agreement was reached today between Honeywell and union officials. 

Honeywell Representative Peter Dalpe says that company negotiators had turned down the United Steelworker Union's last contract proposal saying that it would be detrimental to the competitiveness of the site.

Honeywell Union Workers Demonstrate in Washington D.C.

Metropolis Honeywell union members demonstrated in front of Honeywell corporate headquarters in Washington, D.C. and attempted to meet with several lobbying firms Thursday. United Steelworkers Local 7-669, joined by D.C.  AFL-CIO members delivered letters to Akin Gump, OB C Group, McBee Strategic, and Duberstein Group, who they claim Honeywell has hired along with their own in-house lobby team.

Labor Negotiations Hit Snag at Honeywell on First Day

Labor agreement negotiations at the Metropolis Honeywell Plant got off to a bumpy start as workers were ordered to remove their union stickers yesterday morning.   Union representatives claim the move violates the National Labor Relations Act.  United Steelworkers Local 7-669 President, Stephen Lech expressed his disappointment with the turn of events.

Honeywell, United Steelworkers Begin Negotiations Next Week

Contract negotiations begin next week between the Metropolis Honeywell plant and the local union.

The last contract negotiation began in 2010 and lasted more than a year with several workers taking other jobs during the work stoppage.

Honeywell Metropolis Recalls Remaining Laid-Off Workers

Honeywell’s Metropolis plant is bringing back the remaining 11 workers on its recall list to meet its 2014 production targets. 

Plant Manager Jim Pritchett says the recall allows workers to get trained and recertified in time to support plant operations in January.

Union To File Complaint At Honeywell Plant

Members of United Steel Workers at the Honeywell Plant in Metropolis say the Nuclear Regulatory Agency blocked participation by Local Union President Stephen Lech during an inspection.

The Union says it will seek action against Honeywell and has filed a complaint against the NRC with the Office of the Inspector General.

United Steelworkers officials who represent the hourly workers at the Honeywell nuclear facility in Metropolis say they were not notified beforehand of the company’s decision to not re-open the plant to perform upgrades.

Honeywell to Continue Maintenance Shutdown for NRC Meeting

Honeywell officials released more information today about why the Metropolis plant’s reopening has been pushed back. The company had planned to restart nuclear fuel production July 1.
