Kentucky Facilities Did Not Receive Meningitis Tainted Steroids

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows that Kentucky medical facilities did not receive tainted steroids responsible for a fungal meningitis outbreak that has killed 11 people in the US. However, the Kentucky Department for Public Health reports that five Kentuckians have been diagnosed with the illness after receiving the epidural injections in Tennessee medical facilities.

Army Veteran Runs Cross Country for Fallen Soldiers

An Army veteran is honoring fallen soldiers by running across the country. Mike Ehredt will pass through Clarksville on his second Project America Run Tuesday. He’ll continue east and run through Nashville by Wednesday. His route started in Minnesota and he plans to finish in Texas. His previous run in 2010 took him from Astoria, Ore., to Rockland, Maine – more than 4,400 miles. For every mile Ehredt runs, he posts an American flag with the name, rank, age and hometown of a fallen soldier.

Tenn. Foreclosure Help Notices Mailed

An estimated 37,000 Tennessee borrowers might be eligible for payment under a $25 billion national mortgage foreclosure settlement. Eligible borrowers will receive claim forms in the mail this month. Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper urges those who receive the forms to complete and return them by the Jan. 18 deadline. Those eligible include people who lost their homes between 2008 and 2011 to five major mortgage services, which include Ally/GMC, Bank of America, Citi, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo. The mailings will go out through Oct. 12.

Ky. Parks Offer Discount to Military Members

Current and former military members can stay at Kentucky state parks for a discount starting Nov. 1. They will be able to stay in lodge rooms starting at $44.95 a night and cottages starting at $74.95 excluding tax. To get the discount, military members are required to have proof of their service at check-in. The discount will run through March 31. Through October, military members can get a 10 percent discount to camp or lodge in state parks.

McCracken County Deputy Shoots Man with Sword, Gun

Kentucky State Police say a McCracken County sheriff’s deputy shot a man who waved a handgun and sword at him. Deputy Jared Rivera was called Saturday night to a southern McCracken County residence in response to reports the man inside was suicidal. As Rivera approached the house, he found 50-year-old Michael Lakin inside with a handgun. When the officer returned to his vehicle, Lakin appeared in the doorway with the gun and a sword. Rivera ordered him to drop the weapons, but Lakin instead came toward him.
