Smithland Hydroelectric Facility on Schedule for 2015 Completion

A hydroelectric facility currently under development in Smithland will eventually bring 72 megawatts of new, renewable energy to the region. AMP spokesman Kent Carson says Paducah and Princeton have already contracted to receive power from the project, which has a target online date of next year. Smithland Cancels Firework Display Due to Lack of Pyrotechnic Operator

Smithland residents will need to go elsewhere to see fireworks this year.

The Smithland Area Chamber of Commerce announced Friday it won’t be able to put on its usual riverfront Fourth of July fireworks display this year due to a change in operator regulations.

Public Meeting Set for Discussion of Smithland Bridge

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled a public meeting for discussion of a study of the U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland in Livingston County.

The meeting is Thursday, June 20 at the UK Agriculture Extension Office in Smithland.

KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Jim LeFevre said the purpose of the meeting is to introduce a planning study concerning the feasibility of repairing or replacing the Smithland bridge and to solicit thoughts, concerns and opinions from the public on the future of the bridge.
