A convicted rapist in Kentucky has been the first person indicted in authorities' statewide effort to test more than 3,000 old rape kits.

A prominent western Kentucky businessman will stand trial this year in a shocking rape case. The defendant has connections in high places and the accuser has none. R.G. Dunlop and Kate Howard with The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting found that the actions of one public official are testing the credibility of the criminal justice system.

Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player Jaylen Babb-Harrison has been charged with first degree rape.   According to the Lexington Herald Leader, the 23-year-old is being held at the Madison County Detention Center.

A female high school teacher in Muhlenberg County has been charged with rape in the third degree of a minor. 

McCracken County jail

A Carlisle County woman is in jail on rape and sodomy charges stemming from her time as a substitute teacher.  

Kentucky State Police say Kasey Warren, 27, of Bardwell had sexual relations with two 16-year-old male students in McCracken County.

State Auditor Adam Edelen will host 13 meetings across Kentucky as part of an audit into the estimated thousands of untested rape kits in the state.

Kentucky has hundreds or possibly thousands of untested rape kits sitting in local law enforcement offices, according to State Auditor Adam Edelen.

Edelen on Wednesday announced he is auditing police and prosecutorial agencies to find out precisely how many kits haven’t been tested. His office also aims to find the cause for the backlog.

A Kentucky State Penitentiary employee faces rape charges following her arrest for an alleged sexual relationship with an inmate.  Forty-one year old Lori Holsapple of Kuttawa was taken into custody late last week following a two-month state police investigation.  Holsapple worked as an educator at the Eddyville facility, and has been charged with third-degree rape.  KSP Post 1 public affairs officer Trooper Jay Thomas says even though it was a consensual relationship, she received charges of rape due to her employment.
