The Federal Election Commission has posted the termination letter acknowledging that Progress Kentucky founder and treasurer Shawn Reilly sought to close the PAC.

Groups Sues IRS Over Targeting, as McConnell Releases Ad on Same Issue

A new online advertisement from U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell's reelection campaign focuses on the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS—an issue the campaign says it's not going to let slip out of the public discourse.

The nearly three minute ad uses speeches from McConnell on the IRS issue before it became a national controversy, as well as media reports and testimony from IRS officials to Congress.

Beshear Calls McConnell Recording 'Deplorable,' Criticizes McConnell's Remarks

Gov. Steve Beshear is criticizing the secret recording of a campaign meeting of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell that was leaked. 

Two members of Progress Kentucky, Shawn Reilly and Curt Morrison, have been implicated by a Jefferson County Democratic official as being behind who secretly recorded the McConnell meeting.

One of Two Men Implicated in McConnell Recording Starts Legal Fund

Curtis Morrison, one of two Democratic activists implicated in recording a campaign strategy session of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, is starting a legal defense fund. 

Morrison tweeted out a link to the gofundme.com page Monday afternoon. The website lists a $10,000 goal.

Morrison does not say whether he was behind the recording. He says he has been working with the FBI on that matter. Morrison could not be reached for comment.

Being 'Witness' May Not Keep Progress Kentucky Leader from Being Charged

One leader of a liberal Super PAC implicated in secretly recording a U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell campaign meeting is trying to backtrack from those accusations.

As first reported by WHAS 11, attorneys for Progress Kentucky Executive Director Shawn Reilly say he denies anything more than just being at McConnell's office when the recording happened.  Reilly’s attorneys are putting the blame on Curtis Morrison, the second Progress Kentucky staffer being accused. Reilly's attorneys have not returned multiple calls to them since Friday.  

Mother Jones magazine published the secret recording last week, and legal experts say it could be considered eavesdropping.  But Louisville criminal defense lawyer Brendan McLeod says just being a witness to eavesdropping is murky legal ground.

Kentucky PAC Recording of Sen. McConnell Stirs Controversy

Yesterday, WFPL News reported that Progress Kentucky, a liberal Super PAC, was behind the secret recording of a recent campaign strategy session between Senator Mitch McConnell and his re-election team.  The story has exploded, and it's the second time Progress Kentucky has drawn national headlines. And as Kentucky Public Radio's Gabe Bullard reports, neither incident has done the group any favors.

The attorney for the director of a liberal Kentucky political fundraising group says his client is cooperating with an FBI investigation into a secret recording of a campaign meeting held by U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell. That recording was leaked to Mother Jones magazine.

A secret recording of a campaign strategy session between U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and his advisors was taped by leaders of the Progress Kentucky super PAC, says a longtime local Democratic operative.

Mother Jones Magazine released the tape this week. The meeting itself took place on Feb. 2.
