The band David Wax Museum formed in Boston in 2007. They've since become hits at the Newport Folk Festival, won Song of the Year with “Born with a Broken Heart” and “Americana Artist of the Year” for the 2010 Boston Music Awards, and have starred in a mini documentary about their trip to China.

The Farewell Drifters at Centennial Park

Members of the Nashville-based Farewell Drifters are working towards releasing their third full-length album to follow up Yellow Tag Mondays (2010) and Echo Boom (2011). The band is known for incorporating 60s style harmonies into folk-inspired music all on top of a youthful energy that's impossible to ignore at their live shows.

The Farewell Drifters performed at the 11th annual Nashville Earth Day Festival last weekend. Rose Krzton-Presson spoke with bandmembers Josh Britt and Zach Bevill before their performance in Centennial Park.

Jesca Hoop is a self-declared "Avapop" singer-songwriter. Raised in a northern California Mormon family, she worked in an array of professions (farming, carpentry, surveying, even a survival program in Arizona's mountains for troubled youth) before pursuing her music in 2005 while working as Tom Waits' nanny.

Her first album, Kismet, came out in 2007 and she has since released two EPs and one full-length album. She's toured with acts including Mark Knopfler, Elbow, Peter Gabriel, and Andrew Bird.

Occupy Nashville Removed From Capitol

This past week, the Tennessee House passed a bill that would force Occupy Nashville’s encampment off the plaza outside the capitol.  Debate in the state Senate delayed action on the measure for a week, granting protesters a temporary reprieve. Some protesters began taking down tents Wednesday, but they said their movement was not defeated. They instead argued the camp had become a distraction from the inequalities that first galvanized Occupy Wall Street. This report brought to you by Daniel Potter of WPLN.
