The Murray-Calloway Transit Authority is making strides to maximize efficiencies of its vehicle routes in 2014.

An annual audit conducted earlier this month revealed to board members a net loss of $223,000 for the MCTA 2013 budget, but that’s an improvement of the $423,000 red figure for 2012. 

MCTA Asks Calloway County Fiscal Court for Funds

As part of the Murray-Calloway County Transit Authority’s continuing fight to keep vehicles on the roads, officials with the joint organization are now seeking funds from the Calloway County Fiscal Court.

MCTA Board member Darrel McFerron presented a $9,000 reimbursement proposal at Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting.

MCTA Action Plan to Reorganize System

The Murray-Calloway County Transit Authority approved an action plan to reorganize the public transit system. The MCTA saw a spike in ridership and income during February, but overall the company has a net income of negative $13,815. Director Bjarne Hansen says the board is working to put together more committees to focus on specific topics to reduce costs like fuel consumption, land sale, and vehicle size. Hansen also says MCTA is reorganizing their staff, which includes an outsourcing of payroll to an independent company called Martin, Colson, Hale, and Henderson.
