Fmr. Maker's Mark CEO: "This Is the First Time That We’ve Had Our Enemies Not Trying to Kill Us"

Former president of Maker’s Mark Bill Samuels Jr. says that Kentucky’s so-called bourbon boom still has a couple years of exponential growth in it.

Samuels spoke Thursday on the campus of Murray State University, where he said the boom is partly a result of distillers taking their business back in their own hands.

Kentucky Bourbon Trail Sees Record Number of Visitors in 2013

Kentucky’s bourbon distillers are celebrating a record number of visitors in 2013.

The eight facilities that make up the Kentucky Bourbon Trail saw a 12 percent jump in visits last year, with nearly 572,000 visitors touring facilities such as Four Roses,  Maker’s Mark, and the recently-opened Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville.

Maker's Mark to Restore Alcohol Content to Whiskey


After backlash from customers, the producer of Maker's Mark bourbon is reversing a decision to cut the amount of alcohol. The company's chief operating officer says they will restore the alcohol volume of its product to its historic level of 45 percent, or 90 proof. Last week, it said it was lowering the amount to 42 percent, or 84 proof, because of a supply shortage.
