A new Livingston County ordinance that puts restrictions on specific dog breeds is garnering criticism from owners and humane society activists.

The ordinance, passed last night, will require owners of American Staffordshire terriers, bull terriers, pitt bulls and Rottweilers to register, insure and microchip their dogs.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled a public meeting for discussion of a study of the U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland in Livingston County.

The meeting is Thursday, June 20 at the UK Agriculture Extension Office in Smithland.

KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Jim LeFevre said the purpose of the meeting is to introduce a planning study concerning the feasibility of repairing or replacing the Smithland bridge and to solicit thoughts, concerns and opinions from the public on the future of the bridge.

Lyon and Livingston County's judge-executives are seeking federal support to halt planned boating and swimming restrictions above and below Barkley Dam.

The Army Corps of Engineers announced they planned to put in 24-7 restrictions about 700 feet downstream and 400 feet upstream of the dam because the area poses a danger to the public.

A lane restriction on a Ledbetter bridge undergoing repairs is being lifted for a day and a half starting Friday. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the lane restriction on the U.S. 60 Tennessee River Bridge that connects McCracken County to Livingston County will be lifted beginning this afternoon and is expected to return early Sunday.

The Kentucky auditor’s office noted one violation in its report on the Livingston County Clerk’s 2011 financial statement. The auditor’s office found the county clerk bookkeeper controlled all the financial records without a second person reviewing them.
