TN Public Libraries Get Cheaper, Faster Book-Sharing Service

Tennessee's public libraries will soon be able to share books cheaper and faster thanks to a new interlibrary loan service. The Secretary of State’s office says the Tennessee State Library and Archives has been paying about 200 thousand dollars annually to help libraries mail books to each other. But that amount only covered about half of the postage costs.

Madisonville-Hopkins County Library Board Looks to Sell Buildings

The former downtown Madisonville-Hopkins County Library location may be up for sale soon. Library Board finance committee chair Bill Smith says the two buildings that housed the library have become financial burdens. The buildings were abandoned in 2009 because they are structurally unsound. Smith says repairs and renovations would cost more than 1 million dollars.

Ballard-Carlisle Library Opens with Support from Ballard County Fiscal Court

After several years of planning, Ballard and Carlisle County residents will have access to their own library. The Ballard-Carlisle Library has opened with funds supplied by the Ballard Fiscal Court. WKMS’s Shelly Baskin spoke with Librarian Sonya Mainord about the services the new library will provide for patrons.

Hopkins County-Madisonville Library Seeks Loan Funding

The Hopkins County-Madisonville Public Library's financial challenges continue as its board asks the County and the city of Madisonville to help finance a loan to renovate its downtown location. The board estimates the renovations to cost $672,000 and wants the city and county to pay $38,000 a piece annually for the ten year life of the loan.The Library has faced other financial challeges including a nearly 20 percent budget cut imposed by the city last summer. The board hopes to receive this funding to move the library back to its original main street location.
