Towns across the nation are expected to end each Fourth of July fireworks show with a bigger bang than last year.

So many small towns are seeking members of the community to fund the show, taking some pressure of the municipal budget.

The Kentucky House today will likely vote on a bill to expand the retail sales period for fireworks across the state. The measure, sponsored by Forest Hills Representative Chris Harris, is up for a vote on the consent calendar. That means it will be included among a group of bills when voted on.

  Fireworks have been a part of Mack Bucy’s family his entire life. His family owns “Stateline Fireworks” in Murray.  Bucy says everyone love’s fireworks, and for him, they represent one thing.

"It's the greatest rhythm and blues festival that never happened" and it's this Friday from 7 to 11 pm on WKMS. The Fireworks Rhythm & Blues Revue! is a virtual concert featuring legendary performers like Muddy Waters, Etta James, Solomon Burke, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles, James Brown and many others. Dr. Bob Lochte produced this unique experience and speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good  about the concept, how he chose the music and reuniting former WKMS hosts John Griffin and Jim Carpenter.

Smithland residents will need to go elsewhere to see fireworks this year.

The Smithland Area Chamber of Commerce announced Friday it won’t be able to put on its usual riverfront Fourth of July fireworks display this year due to a change in operator regulations.

THURSDAY JULY 3 SPECIALS:

Jive House Funky 4th of July - (9 p.m.)

Join hosts John McMillen and Brad Robertson for a funky 4th of July featuring Ray Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, Syl Johnson, Rufus Thomas, Johnny Otis, Curtis Mayfield and many others! We'll start the fireworks for the whole weekend on Jive House!

FRIDAY JULY 4 SPECIALS: 

Heavy boat traffic on the lakes this holiday weekend has Law Enforcement reminding boaters to take extra caution.

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife's Sgt. Gary Clark stresses the importance of wearing a life jacket at all times on the water and for drivers to be alert of their surroundings. Clark also recommends caution tonight when marinas have their own firework shows after dark.

Murray Tourism and Convention Center’s Executive Director Erin Carrico previews Murray’s Freedom Fest with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good. Freedom Fest kicks of Friday, June 28 with a street fair featuring vendors and a free outdoor concert by Matty McRee and Clarence Dobbins.
