KYTC Responds to NTSB Letter Implications

Jul 30, 2012

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials say parts of a National Transportation Safety Board letter regarding bridge lighting are misleading.  The NTSB sent the letter to Gov. Steve Beshear last week recommending the state develop bridge lighting inspection plans and training. The letter also outlined reports that the lights on the Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake were out a month before a cargo ship hit the bridge.

The National Transportation Safety Board says Kentucky had received a warning about downed lights on the Eggners Ferry Bridge a month before a cargo ship struck it collapsing a 300-foot span.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will restrict traffic to one lane on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge from 8 am until about noon today.
