New Christian County Superintendent Speaks About Coming to Kentucky

Mary Ann Gemmill

Mary Ann Gemmill started her job as Christian County’s new superintendent of schools at the beginning of July. The 40-year education veteran comes to the district after serving most recently as the chief administrative officer for the Collier County School District in Naples, Fla. Gemmill is a Clinton, Tenn., native, and has worked in several school districts across the Midwestand south. She comes to Christian County Schools as Kentucky is implementing a major push for college and career readiness.

Kentucky Represented in National Education Publication

The executive director of Kentucky’s Pritchard Committee for Academic Excellence is now blogging for a national publication and he’ll be keeping readers abreast of changes the state undergoes as it continues to roll out its new accountability system.

Stu Silberman said he’ll try to post content twice a week on Education Week’s website EdWeekly.org and he hopes to share best practices and challenges that the commonwealth faces.

Kentucky Education Ranks 5th in Harvard Report

Kentucky’s improvement in student assessments of reading, math and science in the past 20 years has placed the Commonwealth in a tie for fifth place in a new Harvard University report.
