Austin Peay State University students are settling into three new residence halls.

The Governors Terrace complex consists of the five-floor Eriksson Hall, and two four-floor dormitories at the north and sound end of the complex.

College students in much of Kentucky move into dorms later this week.  Many will be greeted by the sounds of construction.  Residence halls are under construction at the University of Kentucky, Berea College and Eastern Kentucky University. And those new buildings will be some of “greenest” ever built in the Commonwealth.

The residence hall or dormitory projects, if you prefer, at Berea College, EKU and UK will be built with energy efficiency in mind.  At Berea College, Vice President Steve Karcher says a new 122-bed green dorm will be sealed against the elements…

Legislation requiring all Illinois college dorms to have sprinklers installed within two years is one of four new fire safety bills Governor Pat Quinn signed into law yesterday.  The bill beefs up past legislation by instituting tougher penalties for post-secondary schools that don't comply, including a $1,000-a-day fine if sprinklers aren't installed by September 1, 2014.  Quinn also signed legislation encouraging fire protection districts to buy equipment built in the state.
