Judicial Nominating Commission Meets Next Week

The Judicial Nominating Commission that could recommend the Commonwealth’s Republican Senate President David Williams for a southern Kentucky circuit judgeship is set to meet next week in Burkesville. Williams says he’s interested in the position. The appointment will ultimately fall to Democratic Governor Steve Beshear who says being a lawyer, Williams is qualified to be a circuit judge. Beshear has appointed his Republican foes to high-paying jobs to pull them out of the Senate in the past. The Judicial Nominating Commission meeting is set for Oct. 25.

Williams Interested in Judicial Appointment

A spokesman for Kentucky Senate President David Williams says Williams would consider a judicial appointment if Governor Steve Beshear offered the position. Williams and Beshear are bitter rivals. And rumors have been swirling in Frankfort that Beshear is planning to offer Williams an open circuit court seat in his southern Kentucky district. Williams is a trial lawyer by trade. And earlier this week, Kentucky Public Radio reported that Senate Republicans have already picked a successor should Williams leave.

Williams marriage ending after 9 years

Kentucky Senate President David Williams and his wife are divorcing after nine years of marriage.  In a statement from Williams’ office Monday, Robyn Williams says the "rough-and-tumble pressures" of politics put "unique and incessant pressure" on their relationship.

Abramson Doesn’t Expect Major Change in the Tax Code

The chair of Kentucky’'s tax commission says a sweeping overhaul of the state's tax code isn't in the works.

Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson says, in his heart, he wants to see a major change in the tax code.

“But at the same time my brain tells that generally in state government things move incrementally forward,” he says, adding that a grand reform bill isn't likely to pass the legislature.

And Abramson says throwing out and completely rewriting the state tax code, as state Senate President David Williams previously advocated for, is out of the question:
