The Department of Defense Education Activity awarded two school districts near Fort Campbell with a $4.5 million dollar grant to help students in military families.
The grant is being split between school districts in Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tenn., and Christian County, Ky. The grant will fund a liaison at each school district to help connect with and involve parents.
The Hopkinsville Police Department has arrested two 13-year-olds and charged them with terroristic threatening for writing a bomb threat note at North Drive Middle School. Police arrested the boys yesterday afternoon after a teacher and a student found the note in the school hallway. Both confessed to school staff on scene and again at the Hopkinsville Police Department.
Mary Ann Gemmill started her job as Christian County’s new superintendent of schools at the beginning of July. The 40-year education veteran comes to the district after serving most recently as the chief administrative officer for the Collier County School District in Naples, Fla. Gemmill is a Clinton, Tenn., native, and has worked in several school districts across the Midwestand south. She comes to Christian County Schools as Kentucky is implementing a major push for college and career readiness.
The Christian County Board of Education meets tonight in special session to discuss the appointment and contract approval of a new public school superintendent. The new superintendent will replace the outgoing Brady Link, whose contract was not renewed. the meeting is tonight at 8:30 at the Board of Education's central office.
