Calloway County High School  has approved a student request for a Gay-Straight Alliance. Last month, students submitted a letter requesting the group which they say is needed to address homophobia, harassment, bullying, and discrimination at the school.

A group of Calloway County High School students wants to start a Gay-Straight Alliance at the school. In a letter requesting the group, students say they need a GSA to address homophobia, harassment, bullying, and discrimination.

WKMS presents two hour-long specials showcasing highlights from holiday concerts from regional schools this week as part of the Carson Myre Charitable Foundation's Youth and Ensemble Music Performance Series. These specials feature highlights from recent performances by Murray High School, Calloway County High School, Paducah Tilghman High School and Clark Elementary and will be broadcast on our All-Classical Channel.

If Kentucky's 2014 elections were up to the students of Calloway County High School, Mitch McConnell would win re-election in the US Senate, Jack Rose would be Murray's next mayor and the county would have a new Parks Tax. 

CCHS held a mock election yesterday for local, state and national seats before the November 4th mid-terms. 

Political science teacher Marshall Ward says the school started administering the exercise every election cycle since 2000 as a way of invigorating young people to vote.

After the third bomb threat in as many school days, police have arrested two 18-year-old Calloway County High School seniors.

Shelby L. Scott and Kelsea D. Roberts, both from Almo, are charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a class D felony.

Calloway County High students are back in the classroom this afternoon following an evacuation in response to a bomb threat found written on the wall of one of the school's bathrooms.

For this Veteran's Day "Sounds Good" Kate Lochte speaks with a Navy man on active duty in the South China Sea, Dakota Holland.  He's the son of Rachel Tubbs and David Holland of Murray.  The Navy Office of Community Outreach in Millington, Tennessee set up this conversation with Petty Officer Holland, now serving aboard the USS George Washington, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier home ported in Yokosuka, Japan. The carrier and its airwing provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of the US and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.   Holland graduated from Calloway County High in 2011.

Murray State hosts 25 Kobe Gakuin students with the Youth Exchange Kakehashi Project, called 'The Bridge for Tomorrow,' through Saturday (November 9). Murray State students participated in the same program and visited Japan for 10 days as one of the seven representative US Universities accepted in the exchange this May. Calloway County High School Students also participated in a trip. Murray State Senior Lecturer of Japanese Yoko Hatakeyama speaks with Kate Lochte about how this opportunity evolved for the students. 

MSU's Associate Director for Health Services Judy Lyle initiated bringing the online program AlcoholEDU to Murray State students as well as students at Murray And Calloway County High in an effort to combat alcohol abuse.

The confidential, online program involves surveys and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators has noted its effectively moderating high-risk drinking. She speaks with Kate about the program on Sounds Good.
