The United Postal Service will reduce hours at more than 25 rural post offices in western Kentucky next year. Nationally, the USPS proposes reducing hours at 13,000 post offices to help save money. United States Postal Service Spokesperson David Walton says the two-year plan to reduce hours is an alternative to closing small branches. He says,

“We look at it as a win-win situation. You know, we can keep the post offices open and make the community happy but at the same time we’ll be able to reduce the hours at these locations, which will in turn save the Postal Service money as well.”

The Kentucky Broadcasters Association is joining other industry-related groups in urging cell phone companies to install radio receivers in all their phones.

"Everybody has a cell phone, let’s face it. And the need for such a service on these phones becomes very noticeable, especially in the event of severe weather," said KBA President Gary White.

"You know, we had some tornadoes back earlier this year. We’ve got all of the activity that’s happened up on the east coast now. Let’s face it, we’re going to get more and more severe weather as we move on."

The Teletech call center in Hopkinsville is expected to open in the first quarter of next year. Hopkinsville-Christian County Economic Development Director Mitch Robinson says the company originally anticipated opening this fall, but pushed back the date because they did not have a committed client.

Princeton’s Heaton's Marathon convenience store received its first shipment of beer today making it the first local business to sell alcohol since city residents voted to allow such sales August 7th. Alcohol Beverage Control Administrator Brent Thompson says Heaton’s was the first local business to apply for a license after the vote.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has bought $20 worth of Veterans Cash lottery tickets and is calling on others to play the game which benefits military veterans in the state. The governor helped launch the new game ahead of Veterans Day.
