Democrats Quash Anti-Abortion Bills in Committee

Three bills that would place more restrictions on abortion access in Kentucky have been rejected in party-line votes.

The House Health & Welfare Committee voted down two similar bills that would require ultrasounds for women seeking abortions and penalize doctors who don’t comply.

KY Senate Passes Proposal to Shorten Legislative Sessions

Legislation aimed at shortening Kentucky General Assembly sessions has easily passed the state's senate.  If approved by the full legislature, the constitutional amendment would require statewide voter approval before it could to go into effect.

State Senate Backs Use of Hemp Oil as Medical Treatment

The Kentucky Senate is backing the use of marijuana or hemp oil to treat severe cases of epilepsy in children.  

The senate voted 38-0 yesterday in favor of a bill to give the Universities of Kentucky and Louisville the authority to study cannabis oil.

Chances For a Kentucky Statewide Smoking Ban Are Slim

FRANKFORT — Chances that a smoking ban will pass in Kentucky this year are growing ever more slim.

Each year, about 1,000 Kentuckians die from illnesses related to second-hand smoke, but the Kentucky legislature hasn't come close to passing a ban on smoking in public places and many private businesses.
