A contentious panhandling ordinance in Murray has temporarily been shelved in the wake of a national ruling.

In a city council meeting Thursday night, City Attorney Warren Hopkins said he recommends holding off on such legislation to prevent a clash with federal courts.

Currently, there are no restrictions on panhandling in Murray while surrounding Bowling Green, Hopkinsville and Paducah have all passed bans.

Project engineers behind the possible modifications to Murray's busy 16th street have posted graphics of the alternate options online.

You can view them in the slideshow above.

Project managers are also still seeking public comments on the project with a survey that be accessed here.

Mayor Jack Rose, accounting manager Kim Wyatt and human resources director Cathy Morris are handling the job’s duties until Leet’s retirement paperwork is sorted out in Frankfort.
