About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Murray Share A Seed Program Gives Trees to Park and Community Members

Mike Gowen explains how, in its tenth year, the Murray Share A Seed Program has received a grant from National Wildlife Federation for 150 native trees. Fifty trees will be planted throughout Murray community parks and another one-hundred will be given away to community members who come to the park on Friday, May 2 between 9 am and Noon. MES will also be donating seedlings to the Murray Art Guild for their Needline garden in back of the Guild. SpringTini: A Martini Sampling Fundraiser for Heartland CARES

Stroll through martini stations in Paducah's Market House Square in the 3rd Annual SpringTini fundraising event hosted by Heartland CARES, Inc. It's an evening under the stars with all proceeds benefiting patient care and services at Heartland Cares, Inc. a non-profit organization providing comprehensive, client-centered, healthcare, support services, prevention education, and HIV testing. Local Rotaries Offer Ways to Help Arkansas Tornado Recovery Efforts

Murray Rotarian Keith Travis offers a direct avenue for assisting post-tornadic restoration of normalcy or close to it for those who lost their homes or livelihoods in Little Rock, Arkansas earlier this week. Little Rock's Rotary Club 99 is going to be the local fiduciary for donations. Rotary clubs throughout the Purchase are providing collection points for checks and cash. He speaks with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good.

Petition Circulating for Murray/Calloway Parks Tax

Murray-Calloway County Parks Superintendent Tab Brockman seeks to put the community parks on a more stable financial footing. A group known as People for our Parks is holding a petition drive to let voters decide on a tax of $.05 to raise funds funds for the parks, which would be the November 2014 ballot. Kate Lochte learns more about this petition and its purpose on Sounds Good.

Murray Middle Schoolers Head to Odyssey of the Mind World Competition

Odyssey of the Mind Team at WKMS

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Murray Middle Schoolers are with us to talk about their project called "Seeing Is Believing" that is taking them to world competition.

Junior Achievement West Kentucky Brings Programs to the Purchase

According to the national website of Junior Achievement, the non-profit organization provides schools with programs about young people generating wealth and effectively managing it, creating jobs which make their communities more robust, and applying entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Junior Achievement West Kentucky President Dan Douglas is based in Owensboro, but its programs are in schools throughout the Pennyrile and now, in the Purchase Area.
