The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

All About MCLIB's Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale

Kate Lochte is joined by Friends of the McCracken County Library President Jenni Boyarski on Sounds Good. They talk about the library's book sale Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20. The sale will feature books, cds, and visual material, located at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 211 S. 21st St. On Friday, the sale runs from 9 am to 7 pm, and Saturday runs from 9 am to 1 pm. USGS Scientists Bill Ellsworth and Oliver Boyd join Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to speak about regional work involving earthquakes and the New Madrid Fault Line. Ellsworth’s research says injection-induced earthquakes are more prevalent than fracking induced earthquakes. Boyd explains the Missouri Bootheel aeromagnetic survey going on now, tracking seismic activity on certain areas of the fault and furthering research to learn about the faults and to better predict future earthquakes.

Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber President Lee Lingo and Madisonville Area Manufacturers Association President Kent Waide of Ruby Concrete join Kate Lochte on Sounds Good. They are collaborating on a Kentucky Export Initiative Outreach Meeting Thursday. The luncheon will help local and regional businesses learn about opportunities and benefits in exporting products. The two organizations partner to bring the event to the Madisonville Economic Development office at 755 Industrial Road, at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, July 18).

2013 Hummingbird Festival at LBL

Friends of LBL Special Events Coordinator Cindy Earls previews the 2013 Hummingbird Festival with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good. The Festival brings thousands to LBL the first weekend in August. The Woodlands Nature Station will host more than 100 hummingbirds each day, as migration will be at its peak in early August. At the festival, hear demonstrations about banding and caring for the birds, as well as games, activities, and storytelling for the family. See more at friendsoflbl.org.

PAMGA Celebrates 15th Anniversary with "Twilight in the Garden"

Purchase Area Master Gardener Carol Ullerich visits with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to talk about PAMGA’s 15th Anniversary, being celebrated with Twilight in the Garden on July 25th. The event, from 5 - 7 pm, will be held at the University of Kentucky Demonstration and Trial Garden at 3600 Coleman Road in Paducah. The garden is typically used as an outdoor classroom, featuring a vegetable garden, small orchard, rain garden, and herb garden. The event will guide visitors through the garden and demonstrate activities such as vermicomposting, propagation, fall gardening, and gardening in small spaces. Kentucky National Guard Seeking Funds for State Memorial

Kate Lochte speaks with John Trowbridge, State Command Historian for the Kentucky National Guard, about a fundraising effort to design and construct a Kentucky National Guard Memorial. The memorial will be located at the entrance to Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort. According to their website, the memorial will "create a sacred space for families, friends, and comrades to reflect and remember," as well as provide an educational experience for visitors.

Ryan Walker Survives (and Completes) the Spartan Death Race

Murray man Ryan Walker was among few finishing the Spartan Death Race this summer. The annual event challenges physical and mental limits in a 48 hour adventure race. According to their website, roughly 90% of participants fail to complete the race. He speaks with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good about his experience, what specific events were like, how he pulled through, and whether he'd do it again.

An Update on the Christian County Cares Community Perception Survey

Kate Lochte gets an update on the Christian County Cares project and the results of the 2013 Community Perception Survey with Yasamin Ausenbaugh, Director the program. The survey began in 2005, a detailed project aimed toward community growth. They talk about the goals from the 2010 plan, including developing a better workforce and growing the economy to grow wealth and reduce economy and the response from those goals and how community feedback can continue to improve the area.
