About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Puppies Sound Good: Meet Fairway

Meet Fairway, a boxer mix up for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. He's a very friendly boy, who loved meeting and being pet by everyone at WKMS, he was very mild-mannered and had his tail wagging the entire time in the studio! His foster dad says he was found as a stray on the fairway at a local golf course. He gets along with other dogs and seems to do well with cats and kids. Fairway is approximately one year old and weighs 44 pounds. Read more about Fairway on his Petfinder page.

See adoption information at the Humane Society of Calloway County website.

On 'The Rise and Fall of West Ky Democratic Politics'

There are those of us, of sufficient vintage, who can recall people saying, “If you want to vote in Kentucky, you register as a Democrat.”  That always seemed to be a little bit more true here in western Kentucky, the birthplace of Alben Barkley, Wendell Ford, Ned Breathitt, Ruby Laffoon, and Julian Carroll. Of course, western Kentucky is more competitive today politically, but one has to wonder how our part of the Commonwealth became a Democratic bastion in the first place. Dr. George Humphreys is the director of Madisonville Community College’s Muhlenberg campus and an alumnus of Murray State’s History Department.  He’s the author of The Democratic Rock of Gibraltar: The Rise and Fall of Western Kentucky Democratic Politics Since the New Deal, slated to come out next spring.  He’s on the line today to speak with us about it.

'Dine with the Dearly Departed' at Southern Kentucky Independent Theatre

Southern Kentucky Independent Theatre's Paul Forshee describes the group's September 20th and 21st "Dining with the Dearly Departed" event. It's a new format this year: Actors travel through time portraying owners of acreage now called RB Farms; it all happens under a large wedding style tent with a catered dinner to boot on September 20 and 21 at RB Farms near Kenny Rogers' house on Old Hopkinsville Road near Gracey. A cast of nearly twenty actors will depict nearly a dozen families through history, all whom shared the same farm (the current owners will be portraying themselves.) See more at Janice Mason Art Museum's website.
