Work Ready Skills Initiative Begins Process To Narrow Down Finalists

via Kentucky Education, Workforce and Development Cabinet's Facebook Page

The Work Ready Skills Initiative is in the final round of determining which Kentucky schools will be able to receive money from a pool of $65 million.

The last interviews and on site visits will take place on December 14th and 15th for schools who are asking for money to rebuild or construct.

Executive Director of Communications for the Kentucky Education, Workforce, and Development Cabinet, Woody Maglinger said that the committee is looking for a couple things in schools they will pick.

"What the committee has asked is that these projects show important partnerships, for example they need to have a post secondary partner, and that can include area technology centers and school districts across the state," Maglinger said. "And then the employer side, we want to make sure that these schools are working close with businesses around the community."

Maglinger said the selection committee is made up of ten people from across the state. Maglinger said 39 finalist will be able to see their funding by the end of the year.

The Work Ready Skills Initiative is setting aside $35 million of the original $100 million for spring 2017, so the process can start over for schools that didn’t have a chance to participate in the fall funding.
