Williams Attacks Beshear for Participation in Hindu Ceremony

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Governor Steve Beshear's campaign is accusing his Republican challenger of resorting to desperate attacks by criticizing the incumbent for taking part in a Hindu ceremony that marked an Indian company's entry into Kentucky, bringing with it 250 jobs. Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams says that Beshear's participation in the ceremony was out of line with what Kentucky's governor ought to be doing. Williams said he would have merely attended, rather than participate in the event. Beshear campaign spokesman Matt Erwin is characterizing Williams' comments as "pathetic and desperate." Beshear participated in the ceremony with officials from Flex Films, which is building a $180 million plant in Elizabethtown. The state characterized the event as a blessing ceremony that is traditional in India for new homes or businesses.
