In mid-January, Kentuckians and visitors to the state can catch a peek at bald eagles in western Kentucky.
For four decades, the Kentucky Park System has offered mid-winter Eagle Watch Weekends at three parks. State Parks Special Events Coordinator Carie Ruff says there’s a much better chance to see our national bird now than when the program first started.
“They started in 1970 when visitors maybe saw none or one eagle in the whole trip," Ruff said. "Now we see dozens. In each trip you’re, I don’t want to say you’re guaranteed to see a lot of birds, but we typically see in the double digits on the cruises.”
Land and water tours will be available at Kentucky Dam Village and Lake Barkley State Parks. Kenlake State Park is offering only yacht tours. The tours run from the third weekend in January through the second weekend in February. Ruff says a special educational program will be offered February 3rd for public, private, and home school students aboard the CQ Princess.
