Western Kentucky Polar Plunge Close to Meeting $100,000 Fundraising Goal

Western Kentucky’s Polar Plunge raised $89,231 for the Special Olympics over the weekend. But event organizer Laura Miller says the total amount raised could exceed this year's goal of $100,000 once online donations clear and sponsors fulfill their commitments.

Miller says half of all money raised goes to the state Special Olympics program and the other half remains in the participating counties to support local athletes.

Of its seven active years, 2014 saw the most money raised at $117,000.

A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
