Upgrades to the Murray Wastewater Treatment Plant May Raise Rates

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Last night's city council meeting in Murray served as the final public hearing on proposed upgrades to the city's wastewater treatment plant. The Murray Ledger and Times reports the total cost of upgrading the plant will be $46 million. City officials' current plan would raise sewer charges in order to meet the project's revenue needs. This translates to more than a tripling of present sewer rates. Within Murray city limits sewer rates would jump from their current level of $16.62 to $54.49. Those who live outside the city limits would see their rates rise to $100.72 from the current $30.72. The proposal now goes to the Kentucky Division of Water for approval.
