Update: WKCTC has ended their campus alert for evacuation of the Allied Health Building and Emerging Technology Center.

A natural gas leak near West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah this morning prompted evacuations of nearby buildings. According to a news release, a contractor for Atmos Energy reported damaging an 8-inch high pressure gas transmission line.

Paducah Fire and Police Departments have closed Pecan Drive between U.S. 62 and Bruce Avenue and are working with Atmos to secure the leak. Homes and businesses within a 500 foot radius are being evacuated, including the Allied Health Building and Emerging Technology Center.

Repairs could last until the night. Local American Red Cross members are assisting families.

No one has been injured.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007.
