UofL Professor Announces Candidacy For U.S. Senate

University of Louisville communications professor Greg Leichty has announced that he'll seek the Democratic nomination to run for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. Leichty made the announcement to his 28 Twitter followers on Sunday. He joins two other longshot Democrats — Bennie Smith of Louisville and Ed Marksberry of Owensboro — who have said they are running for the seat now held by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. Democrats still are waiting to hear whether Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes or former Miss America Heather French Henry will run. Others also are considering the race, including former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Garmer and environmental attorney Tom FitzGerald.
