Two Kentucky chefs are bringing the taste of the Bluegrass to the Big Apple. Ouita Michel of Midway and Sara Bradley of Paducah will bring Kentucky-rich cuisine to the James Beard House.

The James Beard Foundation invites chefs to ‘perform’ by presenting dinners to members and the public. The James Beard Foundation is a national non-profit culinary arts organization.

Kentucky Department of Tourism Commissioner Kristen Branscum wants to make 2018 the year of Kentucky food. She said she wants people to think of Kentucky as not just a travel destination, but specifically a culinary one.

“For us to have two Kentucky chefs in the James Beard House cooking, it kind of elevates everything that we have in this state on that national level,” said Branscum.

The Commissioner said the two chefs were selected for their ability to tell stories through food about Kentucky’s diverse regions.

“Not only are they exceptional cooks, but they really focus on using local food and they focus on that Kentucky story that’s associated with that food,” said Branscum.

Guests will be served locally-sourced Kentucky ingredients in dishes that include bighead carp, chicken fried rabbit and bourbon honey ice cream.

The dinner is open to James Beard Foundation members for $135 and non-members for $175. The event is February 27th.
