The Tennessee Department of Correction is working to keep children safe this Halloween with what they’re calling Operation Blackout.
The annual operation began Thursday and involves a state-wide sweep to ensure the state’s 80,000 registered sex offenders are following probation guidelines for Halloween. TDOC probation and parole officers are working with local law enforcement to investigate communities, conduct random visits and compliance checks on sex offenders. Last year’s operation included more than 3,000 random checks. October 31st restrictions for sex offenders include not dressing in disguise, a 6pm to 6am curfew, porch lights off, and only opening doors for law enforcement.
