The Tennessee Department of Transportation is halting all lane closures and construction over the Labor Day weekend.
Construction crews will cease closure activities Friday, September 2nd until Tuesday morning to allow maximum road capacity for drivers. TDOT warns that while closures will be stopped, there will still be workers in construction zones. Enhanced penalties for speeders will still be in place.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is increasing enforcement during the holiday weekend, paying special attention to reckless, distracted and drunken driving. Fourteen people were killed on Tennessee's roads over last year's Labor Day weekend, and alcohol was a factor in six of those deaths.
