School Closings 1/25/13
Bands of rain and freezing rain are moving eastward across Tennessee and Kentucky this morning.
Many schools systems in Western Kentucky and Northwestern Tennessee are closed or delayed today. The full list is below.
Kentucky Transportation officials report bands of light drizzle rolling across the region. Road conditions are mostly wet pavement at this hour, but with the system developing and conditions can change very quickly.
There is a crash on the Western Kentucky Parkway at the 84 mile marker in Ohio County involving 3 Semi-trucks. Eastbound lanes are blocked at this time. Tow trucks are having difficulty reaching the site due to icing conditions. This along the Western Kentucky Parkkway between the Natcher Parkway Interchange and the Caneyville Exit.
There are also several vehicles off the roadway along Interstate 69 Northbound between the 98 and 100 mile marker (formerly WK parkway eastbound) in Hopkins County. Traffic is down to one lane and moving slow at mile point 99.5. This is between Dawson Springs and the Pennyrile Parkway Interchange.
KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says pre-treating efforts may not withstand the coming rain.
The KYTC Snow and Ice Response Team is concerned that as this weather event develops travel conditions can deteriorate very quickly, especially when freezing rain and sleet is involved.
Motorists are urged to use appropriate caution and closely monitor road surface conditions at their location. Forecasters say the travel problems should be short lived.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to around 40 degrees.
