Rumored MSU Presidential Candidate Finalist for Transy's Top Spot
Former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson is a finalist to be Transylvania University’s next President.
After losing the U.S. Senate Republican primary to Rand Paul, Grayson left the Secretary of State’s office to be the director of the Harvard Institute of Politics. He’s held the post since 2011.
Grayson is up against three other candidates for the top post at the Lexington private school.
The three other candidate are:
Seamus Carey Ph.D. Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, Sacred Heart University
Michelle Johnston, Ph.D.Senior Vice President for Administrative Affairs, University of Montevallo
Thomas Minar, Ph.D. Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, American University
The candidates will visit Transy's campus between January 26 and February 4.
Grayson recently penned an op-ed for a northern Kentucky newspaper on the need for reinvestment in higher ed, just a few weeks prior to his being named a finalist.
Sadly, students today are bearing an ever-increasing share of the costs of education. As the undergraduate population in the U.S. continues to increase rapidly, states now spend more than $2,000 less per student on average than they did five years ago. In Kentucky, fiscal support for higher education decreased by more than 10 percent in the last five years.
Grayson had been rumored to be among candidates for Murray State’s Presidency. MSU is set to narrow the field of candidates to a list of finalists in the coming weeks.
