On a night where Republicans won big in Kentucky’s statewide elections, Marshall County has elected its first Republican judge-executive.
With 11,299 votes cast, Paducah Police Department officer and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kevin Neal won with 61.2 percent of the vote over longtime deputy judge-executive Melonie Chambers.
Democrat Mike Miller died in office last December after more than four decades on the job. Gov. Steve Beshear appointed Miller’s wife, Chyrill, to serve in the interim.
Neal says he looks forward to meeting with county employees and will be focused on small business growth.
“I’m actually excited because there’s a lot of opportunity that is out there for us to expand as a county and a community," Neal said.
Meanwhile, voters in Marshall and Calloway counties voted in Jamie Jameson as the new 42nd Circuit judge, succeeding Dennis Foust who announced his retirement earlier this year.
