Racers Fall in NIT Quarterfinals

MSU Racer Athletics

The Murray State men’s basketball team fell to Old Dominion 72-69 last night in the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.

After trailing by 10 with less than 4  minutes left, the Racers began a run capped off by a three pointer from Jeffery Moss to tie the game with seconds left. However, ODU's Trey Freeman hit a 30-foot bank shot at the buzzer to win the game.

Cameron Payne led MSU with 23 points, while Jarvis Williams added 15 and Moss added 12. This was the first time the Racers had made it to the NIT quarterfinals since 1980.

MSU’s record-breaking season ends at 29-6. This was the Racer's 28th consecutive winning season, which is the fourth-best streak in the nation, and third best win total in the program's 90 years. They were the first team at MSU and just the fifth in 67 seasons of OVC hoops to run the table in going 16-0.

The team will lose three seniors, Jonathan Fairell, Jarvis Williams and T.J. Sapp.
