Paul Praises Bevin, Despite Endorsement of McConnell

Kentucky’s junior U.S. Senator Rand Paul has endorsed Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell's 2014 re-election, but he still has kind words for McConnell's GOP primary challenger, Louisville businessman Matt Bevin.

Paul referred to Bevin as a "good, honest, Christian man" and says he doesn't have anything bad to say about him.

Paul made the comments Friday in Louisville, shortly after Bevin officially filed to run against McConnell in next May's GOP primary.

McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton said Paul misspoke in his assessment of Bevin. Benton said Paul doesn't know Bevin well and the McConnell campaign has found a long record of Bevin "stretching and bending the truth."

Benton managed Paul's general election campaign in Kentucky in 2010.
