Paradise Gas Plant Project Turns One Year Old

The Paradise combined cycle gas plant project is a year old this month. When the plant opens it will provide about 30 to 40 jobs in Muhlenberg County. Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman Scott Brooks says the plant is a major project for TVA.

“This is a major undertaking and a major project for TVA because it works toward our focus of having a more diverse and broad portfolio,” Brooks said.

Construction is now 45 percent complete and more than a million work hours have gone into it with more to come. Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman Scott Brooks says the project is already benefiting the community.

“When you have upwards of 500 or more people who are on site, those are people or folks who are spending money in the community, who are staying, buying groceries, buying food over the contract period is significant,” Brooks said.

Brooks says the project is on track, on budget and expected to be in operation around this time next year. Units one and two that run on coal are being replaced by gas plants. This was a business decision based on the age of the units and the cost of keeping up with environmental regulations.
