The Greater Paducah Sustainability Project Recycle Now center is closing three months ahead of their original June 30th closing date due to lack of funds and a drop in the recycling market.
GPSP Recycle Now was scheduled to close at the end of June, but director Merle Paschedag says a significant drop in donations means there isn’t enough money to last through the end of March.
“In order for us to even stay open in March, we’ve had to sell some of our equipment, and we’ve laid off employees,” Paschedag said.
City Manager Jeff Pederson told WPSD he is working on an agreement with the city’s waste service provider to allow people to drop recyclables at Republic’s Paducah Transfer Station while the Paducah Engineering-Public Works Department continues researching residential curbside recycling.
GPSP Recycle Now closes March 27.
