Two west Kentucky organizations have been selected as recipients of the 2016 Governor’s Awards in the Arts.

Gov. Bevin’s office announced the five individuals and five organizations to be awarded Friday..

“Just as the wheels of commerce and industry are important to moving Kentucky forward, so too are the arts,” said Gov. Bevin. “Each work of art tells a story and is a reflection of its maker's unique journey through life."

The Governor’s Award in the Arts annually goes to recipients making "extraordinary and significant contributions to the arts in Kentucky."

“I’m excited about the recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards in the Arts. They exemplify the best of Kentucky’s creative spirit and foster a love for the arts in our communities,” Bevin added. “These accomplished artists come from every corner of the Commonwealth and we look forward to hosting them for the awards ceremony.”

Paducah Life Magazine receives the Media Award for its chronicle of local artists, and Owensboro Health receives the Business Award for presenting works of art and performances within the corporate culture.

The Kentucky Arts Council receives nominations for the award from local sponsors and makes recommendations to the governor.

The 2016 awards are the first under Bevin, who was elected last year.

The presentation of the awards will take place in the State Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort in October.
