Paducah Symphony Hosts Sing-Off in New Venue with American Idol Guest Judge

Paducah Symphony Orchestra is preparing for their signature fundraising event of the year, and in a new location. The Carson Center will be the venue for their Sing-Off on May 14. Executive Director Daniel Sene visits with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good with details on the talented groups of local performers and guest judge American Idol finalist Jason Castro. 

Tickets are available for the VIP pre-show dinner by Artisan Kitchen is on stage at The Carson Center from 6 to 7, or for just the show, which starts at 7:30. There's also a silent auction in the lobby at 6:30. 

The talent includes six a capella groups competing against each other: Murray State University's combined group of singers, Paducah Tilghman High School's Prime Rib and Concordia groups, McCracken County High School's co-ed choir, Ballard Memorial High School Choir and all-female a capella group, and a mixed group of adults and students from The Rhythm Factory. 

American Idol finalist Jason Castro will be a guest judge and will perform a few songs. The other two judges are Dr. Everett McCorvey, Director of the UK Opera Theatre, and W. Blaine Brown, professional actor/singer/performer from the Chicago area who recently finished a Broadway production of Miss Saigon. Maestro Raffaele Ponti emcees.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
